Concrete Contractor Serving Smithville and the North KC Metro

Residential and commercial concrete for Northland homes and properties, built to spec for local soil and weather conditions.

Residential and Commercial Concrete in Smithville and Surrounding Areas

Smithville Concrete Services pours and installs concrete for homes and businesses throughout Smithville, Kearney, Platte City, Parkville, Kansas City, Liberty, and Gladstone.

Most of our residential work involves driveways, patios, pool decks, walkways, retaining walls, and decorative concrete. Many of those projects are replacements — Northland neighborhoods built in the 1970s and 80s have a lot of concrete reaching the end of its useful life, and homeowners want something that lasts another 25 to 30 years.

On the commercial side, we handle parking lots, warehouse and industrial floors, ADA concrete, curbs and gutters, foundations, and exterior flatwork for commercial properties across the north KC metro.

Concrete in the North KC Metro Is Different From Concrete Elsewhere

A concrete contractor who understands what makes this area's soil and weather different will spec and pour a project differently than one applying generic national standards. The differences are significant enough to affect how long the work lasts.

Expansive Clay Soil

The Wymore-Sharpsburg clay series that runs through Clay County and Platte County expands when wet and contracts when dry. On a seasonal cycle, this movement places stress on concrete slabs. Proper base preparation — compacted gravel sub-base at the right depth — is what allows the slab to handle that movement without cracking and settling over time.

60–80 Freeze-Thaw Cycles Per Winter

Kansas City sees significantly more freeze-thaw cycling than most of the country. Each cycle pushes water into cracks, that water freezes and expands, and the crack widens. Proper mix design with air entrainment, adequate PSI, and correctly placed control joints are the technical responses to freeze-thaw stress. Skipping any of those translates directly to shorter-lived concrete.

Drainage and Site Grading

Flat lots and yards that slope toward the foundation are common in Northland neighborhoods. Poor drainage saturates the clay sub-base, which amplifies seasonal expansion and contraction. We plan drainage as part of every concrete project — not as an add-on, but as part of how the work is scoped from the beginning.

Deicer Exposure

Deicing salts applied to driveways and walkways cause surface scaling when concrete isn't properly cured and sealed. New concrete should not have deicers applied in the first winter — we communicate this to every residential customer because it's one of the most common causes of surface damage we see on otherwise well-poured slabs.

Estimates, Scopes, and How Projects Come Together

1

Free estimates, in person

We don't quote concrete projects over the phone. To give you an accurate written estimate, we need to see the site — the dimensions, soil condition, drainage, access, and any existing concrete that affects the scope. Site visits are typically 20 to 30 minutes and there's no fee.

2

Written quotes with specifics

The written quote you receive after the site visit includes scope, specifications, and pricing. We include the details that affect quality: mix design, reinforcement, joint placement, and surface finish. You should be able to compare our quote against others on an equal basis.

3

Honest repair-vs-replace assessment

If your driveway or patio is showing cracks and you're not sure whether repair or replacement makes sense, we'll tell you what we actually think — not automatically the more expensive option. Sometimes resurfacing extends the life of a slab that's still structurally sound. Sometimes replacement is the only thing that makes long-term sense. We'll give you a direct answer.

4

Project walkthrough when done

When the work is complete, we walk the project with you. That's when we go over the cure timeline, care instructions, deicer guidance for the first winter, and answer any questions before we leave the site.
